The project involves the construction of a multi-family residential building with five apartments across two full storeys and a recessed penthouse level featuring a green roof. A particular challenge of the design process lies in the close coordination with the heritage conservation authority regarding the building’s volume and materiality, as the new structure is intended to form an ensemble together with a listed villa located on the same property. In its architectural language, the new building responds to the existing structure while simultaneously remaining visually restrained in order to emphasize the presence and character of the historic Gründerzeit villa. Both buildings are connected through a central landscaped green space. From an energy-efficiency perspective, the new development is designed to meet the KfW 55 Efficiency House standard.
